Thinkwise function point analysis certified against ISO/IEC 25986
AI writes code faster than ever. But how much useful functionality does that code actually deliver? The Thinkwise Platform measures exactly that, automatically, in function points. AgileBenchmark has independently tested and certified that measurement against the new international standard ISO/IEC 25986. So our estimates, quotes and productivity claims rest on numbers anyone can verify.
The certification covers the counting engine in the Thinkwise Software Factory that performs Function Point Analysis (FPA). The engine automatically determines an application's functional size: how much functionality it contains. It follows Nesma Easy Functional Sizing (EFS), the method ISO adopted in July 2026 as international standard ISO/IEC 25986. That makes it a formal, vendor-neutral yardstick.
This turns functional size into a metric you can steer on. Productivity, cost efficiency and delivery speed become measurable, per project and across the portfolio. Decisions rest on numbers instead of opinions or story points. That helps when budgeting projects, when basing contracts on delivered functionality instead of hours, and when comparing team performance.
“As AI changes how fast anyone can write code, the harder question for our customers is what value that code actually delivers” said Arie Versluis, Strategic Product Manager at Thinkwise. “This certification allows us to prove how our model-driven development approach excels at delivering high functional value, with a minimum of code to govern and maintain.”
“Thinkwise asked us to stress-test their FPA counting engine, not rubber-stamp it,” said Harold van Heeringen, CEO at AgileBenchmark. “We found two areas where a fully automated approach diverges from a strict reading of the Nesma standard, and required Thinkwise to disclose both rather than smooth them over. That is what makes a certification meaningful: the numbers behind it are auditable, not just asserted.”
About Nesma EFS and ISO/IEC 25986
Easy Functional Sizing (EFS) is a streamlined function point standard developed by Nesma (the Netherlands Software Metrics Association) that measures the functional size of software using three function types — Logical Files, External Inputs, and External Outputs. ISO published EFS as international standard ISO/IEC 25986 on 27 July 2026, giving organizations a formally standardized, vendor-neutral method for sizing software functionality.
About AgileBenchmark
AgileBenchmark is an independent Dutch consultancy that helps organizations bring objective, data-driven measurement to agile (and low-code) software development — through benchmarking, function point analysis, cost estimation, and output-based contracting. The firm was founded by Drs. Harold van Heeringen, who brings more than 25 years of experience in IT metrics, application development measurement, and cost estimation, and who currently serves as President of Nesma and as a board member of the International Software Benchmarking Standards Group (ISBSG).
